Step Up 2 The Streets (2008)

Synopis :

Step Up 2 is the sequel to the highly popular dance movie Step Up. Sequels are often not as good as the originals and this film is no different although i did not think the original was that great either.

Step Up 2 is about a street dancer Andie who is tough and definitely a fighter. She abandons her street dancing friends to try and make it in a proper dance school. She tries to fit in at an elite Maryland School of Arts but finds it difficult to fit into the typically pompous school. Things get worse when her friends find out where she is. So she decides to form her own street dance crew to prove that they can dance on the streets. It is the cliché uniting of two different cultures and there is the usual romance along the way.

The main problem with this film was the plot. Not only have similar films been repeated a million times before but there is also no real plot development. Other then the simple plot outlined above there are no twists or complications that cannot be seen and predicted 10 minutes before they happen! The terrible story is made worse by the poor acting which is a theme throughout the film. The film relies too heavily on the dancing. Dancing alone does not make a good film and it appears the makers of this film did not learn their lesson from Step Up.

However, the dance moves in this film are spectacular and definitely worth seeing though not sure it is worth watching the film, unless you are really into dance films. In this aspect I would say Step Up 2 is better than the original. In particular, the closing dance sequence was sensational and the ability of Andie to shake her bum along the mirror is also quite impressive. Moreover, the songs in this film were also very good. The best songs were from Timbaland and Flo-rida ft. T-Pain. The songs were in keeping with the film and definitely worth downloading or buying. For me this was still not enough to salvage Step Up 2.

Ultimately, I think if you would really enjoy Step Up 2 if you enjoyed the first film and other films of this genre. For those who do not you will enjoy the dance moves but there is not enough to enjoy Step Up 2. The acting is terrible and the plot is very basic. If you do not go and see this film at the cinema then it is worth seeing at some point just for the dance moves.

Restraint (2008)

Synopis :

An interesting psychological thriller with a love triangle from your Australian neighbors. Ron & Dale (Travis Fimmel & Teresa Palmer, respectively) are two crazy kids on the run with a body in the trunk. They luck out when they find a deserted mansion in the countryside to hide in. They soon discover that a reclusive rich guy named Andy (Stephen Moyer) lives in the abode. Before they can kill him Andy begs for his life in exchange for forty thousand dollars. The young drifters agree to work with their prisoner in exchange for financial security.

Sounds simple, right? I'm sure it would be a cakewalk just to force the old bachelor to write out a check, but then where would the fun be in such a boring transaction? Andy tells the couple that in order to get the money Dale will have to go to the bank and pose as his fiancée. Can the runaway stripper pull off the posh look long enough to secure the cash from the bank? How will Ron cope with his trashy gal pal going proper? Is Andy as helpless as he seems to be? All these questions and more will be revealed in this 2008 nail-biter.

Honestly, I was turned off at first. The filmmakers do a great job setting up Ron & Dale as two despicable cretins that deserve to be thrown into a jail cell until The Rapture.
Then they pick on the poor lonely rich man and things start to get a little interesting. It's not until the couple accept Andy's little agreement when the story becomes really twisty. Dale puts on the costume of a grand dame but soon she starts taking a liking to playing the proper lady, which sets Ron on edge. Add to that a little spark between Dale & Andy and you got a house full of drama ready to blow.

Other highlights include the performance of Mr. Fimmel as the gun-toting Ron, who seems like a pretty hardened criminal until his insecurites start showing. One of the twists involves Andy finding a dangling thread in Ron's bad boy image and pulling on it enough to unravel the bully's resolve. Ms. Palmer does a fine job portraying the inner turmoil in Dale. She's lived so long being bad that she never imagined she would have an opportunity at success and independence. It was fascinating to watch whether Dale would open the door to freedom or stand by her loving yet maniacal boyfried. And of course, Mr. Moyers's "Andy" has a lot more going on inside that blue blood brain of his than meets the eye.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Synopis :

The Force is with us in EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH, the final chapter of the six-part STAR WARS series, which began a long time ago (1977) in a galaxy far, far away... and is now complete in its cyclical perfection. This visually awe-striking kaleidoscope of interplanetary imagination features the unmatched digital animation and special effects of George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic. With pink and orange skies casting a golden sheen over magnificent landscapes through which space ships dart and light sabers flash, the spectacle of the film, while hypnotising, is but a complement to the intense, crucial plot. Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) remains the Jedi apprentice of master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor).

Battling dark forces that threaten the Republic, the duo quickly eliminates enemy Count Dooku (Christopher Lee), and Anakin proves as he states more than once that his powers have doubled. An intimidating warrior with superior knowledge of the Force, Anakin becomes the pet of Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), who is connected to the dark side. Meanwhile, Padme (Natalie Portman), the senator and former queen who is secretly married to Anakin, is pregnant, and Anakin is tortured by dreams of her dying in childbirth. With Obi-Wan on Utapau battling cyborg General Grievous (Matthew Wood), and Yoda (Frank Oz) joining the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, the sage warnings of the Jedi council (Samuel L. Jackson, Jimmy Smits) go unheard by Anakin.

His moodiness and glowering are a clear precursor to his inevitable, terrifying metamorphosis into Darth Vader, the dark leader of the evil Empire who haunts the remainder of the series. John Williams's famous orchestral score with its thunderous marching themes adds more continuity, with refrains reminding viewers of STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE, in which Padme's children Luke and Leia take charge.

Movie Review And Download : Take the Lead (2006)

0 comments Wednesday, March 11, 2009
Synopsis :

Mixing elements of sports film, feel-good drama, and teen movie--with a dash of social realism--TAKE THE LEAD is an inspiring tale of transformation through art and sports. Based on a true story, the film centers on the dashing Pierre Dulaine, an idealistic New York City ballroom dancer who was the subject of the runaway documentary hit MAD HOT BALLROOM (2005). After spying the desperate and violent actions of a young and angry high schooler named Rock, Dulaine becomes intent on channeling his talent into the service of troubled youth, and almost immediately approaches Rock's tough but well-meaning high school principal (the always radiant Alfre Woodward) with the idea of teaching ballroom dancing to detention students. Were it not for the fact that this is a story pulled from real life, the premise might ring false; the fact that it actually happened only makes the movie more powerful.

Though at first greeted with the expected disdain and cynicism by his street-hardened students--gang member Ramos, tough-as-nails Larhette, charming but overweight "Monster," and the lone white boy Kurd--all of them become transformed into dedicated, graceful, and talented dancers, performing the tango and rumba as confidently as they once initiated fistfights. Along with learning the technical steps of the ballroom, these youngsters are also exposed to their toe-tapping teacher's wisdom about life, learning everything from how to treat a lady to how to disengage from pointless violence. Former music-video director Liz Friedlander brings a kinetic energy to the film, and the pulsating hip-hop soundtrack is designed to attract youthful viewers.
